Packers claim TE Eli Wolf off Waivers

The Packers added to their TE room as of Thursday claiming Eli Wolf off of waivers from the Indianapolis Colts. Wolf is a player that is rather untested in the NFL up to this point having been released in 2021 by the Baltimore Ravens and then serving the remainder of the season on the Colts practice squad. Untested in real NFL action he may be however still an intriguing prospect for Packers fans to keep an eye on as Green Bay struggles with a depleted passing attack heading into 2022.

Eli Wolf is a massive man standing six foot four and weighing in at 236 pounds per Pro Football Reference, so the right frame for what the Packers want to do. Wolf unfortunately wasn't a large stat maker in college though, only producing 8 catches for 78 yards and 1 touchdown in three years at the University of Tennessee. His fourth year saw him transfer and walk on at the University of Georgia where he saw the most success of his college career, producing 13 catches for 149 yards and 1 solo touchdown in that one season. With Packers run heavy offense Wolf may be used more as blocking TE or decoy if he manages to make the final roster and carve out some playing time. Many challenges lay ahead for Wolf as the Packers still roster Robert Tonyon, Josiah Deguara, Tyler Davis, and an ageing Mercedes Lewis.
